In 2017, 3-month-old Keenan Spencer was rushed to the hospital after he was found unresponsive in his home. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The boy’s Father, Catlin Goodwill, is accused of causing his death.
Goodwill was arrested in 2019 after Regina Police issued a Canad-wide warrant for his arrest. He’s facing manslaughter charges and his trial continues today with evidence of the baby’s injuries brought forward.
The Mother, Jodeci Spencer, says she was at classes the night of the boy’s death so he was left alone with his father.
An extensive autopsy was done on the body within the following days after the death by a forensic pathologist with the province’s office of the chief coroner, Dr. Andreea Nistor.
She testified at the trial on her findings in the autopsy.
In the autopsy, the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.
Nistor shared that she found bleeding in the baby’s skull and brain as well as bruises on the back of his head that occurred moments prior to his death, a bruise in the child’s groin area, and bruises on the child’s chest due to CPR from emergency responders.
Nistor reported that the presence of bleeding and the bruising on the back of the head seemed to be all part of the same process.
Spencer has two other children with Goodwill and told the court that she has never seen Goodwill be violent towards their children.
