Since White City lost its battle to annex parts of the RM of Edenwold along its border in a Boundary Altercation Application, White City has filed for leave to appeal the decision.
White City applied to take over parts of the RM of Edenwold in 2019 which included undeveloped lands as well as the existing subdivisions of Emerald Park, Park Meadows Estates, Meadow Ridge Estates, Escott/Deneve, and Great Plains Industrial Park.
Their goal with this annexation was to ensure that White City would have sufficient land to grow the community over the next 25 years.
In early January, the Saskatchewan Municipal Board Municipal Boundary Committee (MBC) favoured the side of Edenwold and denied White City’s request to take over parts of its neighbouring community.
“After consideration and consultation with our legal counsel, we have decided to appeal,” Mayor Brian Fergusson says.
“The decision by the MBC appears at odds… Our decision is based on a full review of the reasons provided and on what we consider to be insufficient analysis and reasoning in support of the Committee’s conclusions. We are also concerned about the failure to address certain matters, including the issue of land for commercial or industrial development.”
In a press release, it says that the town is unsure of the considerations by the Committee during the hearing that was held last year for the Boundary Altercation Application.
White City also feels that a number of important matters that appeared at the hearing were not addressed in the decision.
If granted leave, White City will proceed through the appeal process, which will lead to a hearing before the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
