SaskTel President and CEO Doug Burnett announced that he is retiring later this year.
The SaskTel Board of Directors announced that Burnett has decided to retire sometime at the end of May or early June 2023 timeframe.
SaskTel Board Chair Grant Kook said the board is extremely grateful for Burnett’s leadership during his tenure.
“Doug is an exceptional leader with a track record for delivering on results year over year. We are thankful for Doug’s remarkable vision, innovation, and commitment to providing world-class communications services to the province of Saskatchewan.”
During Burnett’s time as President, Kook noted that Burnett made significant contributions to the ongoing success of SaskTel, leading the company’s strategic direction in a highly competitive communications industry.
SaskTel also undertook significant infrastructure projects under his guidance, including SaskTel’s 5G Network Modernization Program, Wireless Saskatchewan, and the ongoing Rural Fibre Initiative.
Don Morgan, Minister responsible for SaskTel, thanked Burnett for his over 30 years of service to SaskTel.
“Doug has been instrumental in delivering on our government’s plan to build a better Saskatchewan by investing in infrastructure that supports and strengthens growth and continued prosperity in all communities in our province.”
Burnett joined SaskTel in 1990 as Corporate Counsel and, after seven years in this position, became General Manager, Human Resources.
In 2003, he was appointed Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Services.
Burnett was named Acting President for several years before being appointed President and CEO in 2019.
Burnett and his wife, Wenda, will remain in Saskatchewan after his retirement and look forward to spending time with their children and grandchildren in the years ahead.
The executive search to select a new President and CEO will be led by the SaskTel Board of Directors and will begin shortly, with no date yet determined for when Burnett’s replacement will be named.
