The Regina Pats dropped their sixth straight game on Friday night with a 7-1 defeat to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Borya Valis had the lone goal for the Pats.
Brandon was rebranded as the Wheat City Walleye for the evening, were led by Brett Hyland who scored a hat-trick. Rylan Roersma had three points (2G-1A), former Pat had a pair of points (1G-1A), Nate Danielson had three points with Roger McQueen also scoring. Carson Bjarnson backstopped Brandon to the win with 32 saves.
Ewan Huet started the night in net for the Pats, but was relieved after the first period when he allowed three goals on 11 shots. Kelton Pyne made 23 saves in the final two periods.
After the game, Head Coach Brad Herauf felt the Pats were deflated with a couple of goals against early in the game.
“I don’t think the first period goaltending gave us any help at all. I didn’t mind our first period and obviously it was 3-0 but we were playing well. We had two goals that shouldn’t have went in the net in the WHL. We were fighting an uphill battle the whole game. We try to not evaluate the result all the time, we’re in a building stage getting young guys ice time, growing guys and developing. 3-0 [after one] doesn’t look good to a fan but I liked the way we were playing in the first period. Couple of unlucky bounces just kept biting us all game.”
Regina has now dropped their last nine games away from the Brandt Centre.
The Pats will return to home ice for the first time since November 15 on Saturday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos for their annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Coverage on 620 CKRM begins at 6:50.
