Yesterday morning at around 4:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the 800 block of Grey Street for a report of an armed robbery.
The report stated that a man was sitting inside his parked vehicle on Grey Street when two male suspects exited a nearby vehicle, entered the victim’s vehicle, and pointed a gun at the victim.
One of the men then drove off in the victim’s vehicle and the other male drove off in the suspect vehicle that they originally got out of.
The victim was not injured in the incident.
Patrol officers and members of the Canine Unit then located the victim’s stolen vehicle abandoned on Grey Street and a loaded firearm was found inside.
Additional officers located the suspect vehicle driving in the area and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle sped off and evaded the police.
A short time later, members of the Canine Unit located the suspect vehicle abandoned in an alley on the 2200 block of Broder Street.
A Canine team then located the suspect hiding in a yard on the 2200 block of Edgar Street.
A Police Service Dog bit the suspect and he was then taken into police custody.
The male was transported to hospital by EMS and was treated for his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, police recovered a second firearm, a number of drugs, items associated with drug trafficking, and body armor.
28-year-old Michael John Yewman, of Regina, is facing 16 charges of:
- Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm.
- Pointing a Firearm.
- Possession of a Loaded/Restricted Firearm.
- 2 X Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized.
- 2 X Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle.
- Possession of Firearm, Prohibited/Restricted Weapon Obtained By Crime.
- Flight From Peace Officer.
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance by Alcohol/Drug.
- Operate Conveyance Dangerous to the Public.
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Under $5000.
- 2 X Possession of a Scheduled Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking.
- Fail To Comply With Condition Of a Release Order.
Yewman made his first Provincial Court Appearance yesterday afternoon.
