Friday’s COVID-19 numbers from the province show three active cases in southwest Saskatchewan.
While other cities and areas have seen vaccines come in, the southwest has not had any so far and the mayor of Swift Current wants to know why.
“A few months ago, we had some cases in the southwest with some colonies that had gotten it, but they got corrected.” Al Bridal said. “We have been following restrictions down here, but we know other communities have not so we are wondering in the southwest why when he have been following restrictions, we are not seeing vaccines. People in our area deserve to have the vaccine as well. Our seniors need to be vaccinated and our healthcare workers need to be vaccinated just like those in North Battleford, Prince Albert, Weyburn and other places.”
Bridal says people in the southwest care about their communities and that they want medical staff and seniors vaccinated just like every other area has.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has indicated some vaccines could be headed that way very soon, but the daily update provided by the government on Friday suggested distribution plans will need to be reviewed because the province is getting less of the Moderna vaccine than originally expected for the week of February 22.
