The Saskatchewan Environment Society’s second webinar in their Sustainability Speakers Series is Tuesday night hosted by the Saskatoon Library.
The environmentally-themed presentations are free and are being held over Zoom.
The webinar will feature Dr. Axel Diedrichsen of Plant Gene Resources of Canada. He says the topic will be the genetic diversity of Saskatchewan’s cultivated plants.
Diedrichsen explains how many people are rethinking where their food comes from, asking questions like how it is is produced, where it is produced and how we can be more sustainable using more local food and local protection.
Also speaking will be Cathy Holtslander of the National Farmers Union, who will talk about farmer-led public plant breeding to keep food systems resilient. Diedrichsen says everyone is invited to attend and will be informative for people with an interest in farming, gardening and bio-diversity.
The presentations will be broadcast on the Saskatoon Libraries website and will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by a question and answer period from audience members.
