The Regina Police Service has brought in a few fresh faces that will be the newest members of their police force in the near future.
The four individuals took part in a swearing-in ceremony at RPS headquarters Thursday afternoon with family and friends in attendance.
One of the recruits is Isiah Dawson.
He said his journey to get to this point began a couple years ago. For the past seven years, Dawson was working with city EMS.
Eventually he realized that he wanted to give himself a new career opportunity.
“I saw the officers that I worked with daily and the commitment they had, the opportunities they had for lateral movement as well as career advancement, it was something that really appealed to me,” he said.
“I decided it would be a good career change to strive for it.”
Dawson, along with his colleagues Katie Hungle, Cassandra Carlson and Trent Walker, will begin training on Monday, July 29th at the Saskatchewan Police College with recruits from other Saskatchewan municipal police services.
They’ll be instructed on everything from learning the Criminal Code of Canada to mental health and self-defence training.
While it will be a lot of rigorous work both mentally and physically, Dawson said he’s very excited for this next step in his life.
“It’ll be lot of studying, some good comradery building with other services within Saskatchewan, and really looking forward to representing our city at the Saskatchewan Police College.”
The training program is 20 weeks of studying at the college before they graduate on December 13th and are the newest constables for the Queen City.
Upon their return to RPS, they’ll be partnered up with a veteran officer and will start a period of field training.
