Ah, the joys of modern technology. You know the drill: you try to log into a vital work program, and suddenly you’re locked in a pitched battle against your own computer. Your password that worked flawlessly yesterday? Useless today. So, I sit there, staring at my screen, the stupid blinking cursor taunting me. Fine, I say, I’ll change the password. Enter old password, create new password, confirm new password—but wait, it still doesn’t work. Cue the eye roll and the dramatic desk slam. What’s my solution to this never-ending saga? I walk away, of course. Out of sight, out of mind. There are better things to do than wrestle with errant technology. Like pulling pranks on my co-workers and trying to get the last word in on the air.
Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, and that stubborn program remains untouched like an ancient relic I dare not disturb. It’s almost therapeutic, really. I’ll think, “Out of order, I’m out of the problem!” Probably not the smartest strategy, but hey, it’s a strategy. Fast forward a few months, and the dreaded moment arrives once more. I need to use that program again. I glance at my laptop with a mix of dread and defiance. Surely it can’t be as bad as last time, right? Wrong. I’ve forgotten all about the unresolved login issue. Here we go again: new password, same old problem. You see, I’m locked in a dysfunctional relationship with technology—a soap opera where the plot never advances. Each time I promise to dedicate a weekend to sort through all my technical issues, but we all know that’s as likely as me running a marathon.
Spoiler: it’s not happening. Hats off to all you tech wizards (Kyle, Carter, Ryan, Curtis!) out there who can breeze through troubleshooting without breaking a sweat.
