CN Rail is reporting record grain movement for the crop year ending July 31st.
CN says it moved over 27 million tons of grain for export, one million tons better than the record set 2 years ago and 2 million tons higher than last year.
The director of sales and marketing for grain, David Przednowek, says individual records were set in the months of November, December, January and April.
In April, the best month ever, he says 2.72 million tons of grain were moved to export position.
Przednowek says CN also moved one million tons of grain in containers.
He says the record grain movement was set despite a late start to harvest, record cold in February, and rain weather at export terminals restricting ship loading.
He says the record was achieved through strategic investment in staff, equipment and improved capacity.
CN says the majority of new high throughput elevators are being located on CN rail, with seven open between June 2018 and July 2019, another four announced this crop year, and two more will open shortly.
CN says it is optimistic about the upcoming harvest and moving it for export.
