Agriculture Minister David Marit is describing 2020 as a very challenging year for prairie farmers.
Marit says COVID-19 posed several problems, including the cancellation of farm conferences and major shows like the Canada Farm Progress show and Canadian Western Agribition.
“To see that not happening is obviously very disappointing,” said Marit. “Even with the ag society shows and cattle shows, what I found is how everyone adapted to what was happening. We saw that at Western Agribition, it went online, and they did some streaming there.”
Marit says on-line farm auctions did very well despite the new restrictions on social gatherings.
He is also happy to see on-going interest in Saskatchewan’s farm products in the world marketplace.
He says many foreign countries realized the importance of food supply and security.
