NDP Health Critic Vicki Mowat and Mental Health Critic Danielle Chartier have been crossing the province this summer holding town hall meetings on the status of healthcare and mental health care in Saskatchewan.
The two made a stop at the University of Regina on Thursday to hear concerns that people have.
Mowat says one theme has come through no matter where they stop.
“Access to health services, a way to make it easier when going to emergency rooms as they are bursting at the seams. “Mowat said. “People want to believe the care will be there when they are in an emergency situation, but they are left waiting longer than what is needed.”
The NDP are using the meetings which will continue throughout the province in August to hear these concerns and then establish a platform for both health and mental health for the next provincial election which is over a year away.
While that election is over a year away, Chartier says it is imperative the opposition continue to keep the government accountable on issues surrounding both healthcare and mental health care with one of those things being to develop a strategy to curb the usage of drugs like crystal meth which is an issue in both urban and rural Saskatchewan.
