APAS is hoping for a speedy decision from government on changes to the agristability support program.
President Todd Lewis says its good to know discussions are still underway but farmers need to know if the federal enhancements will be accepted by the provinces.
“We need some certainty around Agristability, is it going to be the same program? is there going to be some improvements? is it going to be retroactive to 2020?,” asked Lewis. “All these questions are important because it will affect how much crop insurance producers take out in some cases, how much private insurance they may buy.”
The federal proposal would remove the reference margin limit and increase the compensation rate from 70 to 80 percent.
Saskatchewan is worried about the cost and is waiting for details on certain issues.
