As Saskatchewan continues its battle with COVID-19, there is a small part of the population that still believes what we have been through has been overblown.
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab says he doesn’t understand that thought process.
“Why would people not believe the basic evidence? We’re not talking about having debate over is this policy better than that policy, we can debate all those things, and should debate them,” said Shahab. “But the science is very clear, so that would be my concern.”
Shahab says there are many credible organizations relaying the information that what we are battling is not a hoax and must be taken seriously.
“There’s so much information out there that speaks to how significant the pandemic is in terms of hospitalizations and deaths,” said Shahab. “These are real people that have been in the hospital, suffering long-term consequences, and have passed away.”
Shahab says while many are adhering to what has been asked, those that aren’t need to realize this is not a joke and that lives are at stake not just here, but everywhere.
