The province will not appeal a court decision that ruled in favour of the “Walking with our Angels” camp that set up in Wascana Park this summer.
The province went to court last month looking to remove the teepee set up by 24-year-old Tristen Durocher to protest the high suicide rates in the province’s north.
Durocher walked from Air Ronge and went through a ceremonial fast to highlight the need for change to legislation and call for action to address the issue.
Justice Graeme Mitchell ruled that Durocher could complete his protest, saying he was constitutionally protected under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Durocher’s vigil ended shortly after the court ruling, so the teepee was taken down just a few days later.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed they would not appeal and would not provide further information, as the province is in the midst of a campaign.
