The Saskatchewan RCMP has opened an investigation into the death of a one-year-old boy after an incident on Saturday, November 21 in Canora.
Canora RCMP were called just after 1:00 a.m. to a report of an infant requiring urgent medical attention inside a home located on the 200 block of Northern Avenue in the town. When they arrived, officers from the Canora detachment found the infant and took over resuscitation efforts from family on the scene until paramedics arrived.
EMS continued resuscitation efforts upon their arrival, but were unsuccessful. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The infant sustained injuries, and based on an initial investigation by police, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South were called in to help with the investigation.
An autopsy is set for November 23 in Saskatoon. Next of kin notifications have been completed.
At this time, the residence where the incident happened is secured by police as the investigation is ongoing.
