Ten national farm groups have joined forces to ensure federal policies support farm efforts to battle greenhouse gases.
Farm groups have raised alarms about Ottawa’s 170 dollar per ton carbon tax by the year 2030.
Now, national groups representing the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, the Canadian Cattlemens Association, Grain Growers of Canada and the pork and poultry industry have formed the Agriculture Carbon Alliance.
Co-chair Dave Carey, vice president of government and industry relations with the Canola Council, says the goal is to push for useful policies on carbon pricing and offsets.
The Alliance will also work on rebates and exemptions for farmers from the rising carbon tax.
