Avonlea, Saskatchewan will be the place to be this weekend when a large amount of people will be pedaling to help raise money for those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).
The MS Bike event returns to Saskatchewan for its 30th anniversary.
The one-day event will have cyclists taking part in the ride to help raise money for MS research and services.
Amy Bosche, the community engagement coordinator with the MS Society of Canada Saskatchewan Division, talked about how this is an important fundraiser for so many in the province who are affected by the disease.
“We still don’t know the cause of the disease, therefore we don’t have a cure for it,” said Bosche. “It’s important we are putting those dollars into the research and hopefully we’re coming closer to not only finding the cause, but also a cure.”
Organizers expect around 100 cyclists will be taking part in Saturday’s fundraising event in Avonlea.
A goal of $130,000 dollars has been set and Bosche believes they will be able to meet it considering they’ve reached their marks in the last few years.
The money they raise will help provide hope for people living with the disease in a province that has one of the highest numbers of MS in the country.
“Multiple sclerosis is very prominent here in Saskatchewan, we know that about 3,500 people in Saskatchewan have the disease,” mentioned Bosche. “This is a great way to show your support for those who are affected.”
Along with the ride, the day will include a pancake breakfast, games and a barbecue
