Saskatchewan’s Child Advocate is calling for changes to the “Person of Sufficient Interest Program”, and its impact on the children in the program.
PSI is used when a child is removed from a parent, or parents for various reasons. The idea is to place the child with a close relative to make it easier on the child, instead of moving into a foster home with strangers.
The Child Advocate in her report called “Is there Sufficient Interest” recomends improving benefits for the child in the program, as they seem to be getting less help than children in other programs.
The ministry of social services has accepted all of the recommendations, including a complete review of the program.
However it is rejected the recommendation to make sure all social services possible are being made available to children in the PSI program.
