Rural Municipalities president Ray Orb is looking forward to financial details in Wednesday’s provincial budget.
Premier Scott Moe gave some broad hints last week, saying the budget would offer $278 million in municipal revenue sharing, up $27 million or 11% over last year.
Orb said the funds will be put to good use.
“We see that the revenue sharing is going to bring a bit more money for rural municipalities, so we’re happy about that.”
Orb said the funds are much-needed in rural Saskatchewan.
“We’ve been pushing really hard for roads, but we’ve been pushing harder for bridge funding for many of the bridges (we have),” Orb said. “We have about 1,400 bridges in rural Saskatchewan, many of them in a state of disrepair, either needing repair, or needing replacement.”
Orb is also hoping for an increased focus on increasing the irrigated crop acreage in Saskatchewan.
