After 57 years, the Regina Humane Society (RHS) is moving to a new location.
RHS announced the launch of a new Animal Community Centre located in Habour Landing at 4900 Parliament Avenue.
Lisa Koch, the executive director for the RHS, said that it was time for something new.
“Our current facility is just falling apart around us,” she said. “We spend money just trying to keep the lights on and door open with the current conditions that we have.”
“This is really going to be a game-changer in terms of the health and welfare of animals but really the spaces themselves for people to be able to come and spend time with animals,” she continued.
The Centre will offer a safe refuge for homeless pets and an adoption gallery with home-like habitats for dogs and cats, an education center, a veterinary hospital, a dog park, a training centre, and more.
Koch said that they have been working on this project for the last 11 years and that it means a lot to see it happening finally.
“I’ve been with the organization for 31 years, and I’ve seen the organization grow and advance its programs and services to the community over many years,” she said. “This project has been 11 years in the making. It’s been a lot of work, and it took many hands and many hearts. So many people have come together to make this project a reality.”
The project’s total cost is $28 million, with just under $4 million left to raise for the RHS. The Centre has the goal of being open in June of 2023.
