Three goals in the first ten minutes wasn’t enough for the Regina Pats, who saw their lead evaporate and turn into a 5-4 overtime loss against the Moose Jaw Warriors Tuesday night.
Connor Bedard kept his point streak alive with two assists, and now has six points through his first three games in the WHL.
Pats defenseman Ryker Evans, who had two assists himself, said maintaining control after getting an early lead will be something to work on.
“We played a good game and came out strong in the first period and played the way we wanted to play, we just couldn’t hold onto that lead and that’s what we’ve got to work on, and we’ll win those games in the end,” Evans said.
Pats Head Coach Dave Struch, had a similar comment after seeing a 4-1 first period lead shrink quickly in the middle frame with Moose Jaw stealing back the momentum just 23 seconds into the 2nd period.
“Teams have to learn how to play with a lead and to do the right things, we set ourselves up to do that and it’s something we have to get better at,” Struch said on the 620 CKRM postgame show.
The Pats (0-2-1-0) will have to shake this one off quickly as they have a date with the Swift Current Broncos (0-2-0-0) Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m.
