It was thought Jordan Williams-Lambert was returning to the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week after being released by the NFL’s Chicago Bears, but that was not the case.
It is now though, as the football team has announced he has returned and signed a contract extension that will keep him here through the end of the 2020 campaign.
Head Coach Craig Dickenson spoke highly of Williams-Lambert while making it sound like we shouldn’t expect to see the receiver this week.
“He’s got to get re-accustomed to the system and re-accustomed to the CFL game.
“We’re going to let him have a week under his belt and then we’ll figure out how we want to structure that group.”
How the Riders structure their receivers will be a major topic of discussion among fans until Williams-Lambert plays. One thing is for sure, when Williams-Lambert is ready, he’ll be replacing one of the four American receivers in the starting lineup.
“We probably are not going change our ratio. We’re not going to dress five Americans. So he’s going to push some of the guys that are already out there.”
Dickenson says all the receivers are being looked at.
“I think all of them are pushed right now. Because Jordan’s a good player.”
The 25-year-old was the West rookie of the year last season. He had a team-leading 62 catches for 764 yards and four touchdowns last season.
“We didn’t bring him in here to watch,” says Dickenson. “So he’s going to definitely play at some point.”
The green-and-white also announced the signing of defensive lineman Chad Geter on Tuesday. He played with the club last season but was released before the regular season started and played a few games in Montreal.
They also released K Gabe Ferraro and DB Solomon Means.
The Riders are home to Montreal Saturday at 5.
