Nothing says summer like going to the fair, the exhibition, the carnival or whatever you might call it in your world. This week the Queen City Ex opened on a Wednesday and wraps up on Sunday night.
New look in 2025, it is a Canadian production! The midway, the Original 16 Grandstand entertainment all Canadian. West Coast Amusements brings the thrills in 2025 with a new way of ticketing that makes it pretty slick to pay and ride. The iconic Zipper is back ready to rock and roll ride fans, who says that age makes a difference when it comes to having fun!! The Zipper is 58 years old now! This is the ride that takes its job of jostling you around very seriously. Two people in a cage that shakes you to the core as it rolls up and down the oblong frame flipping you and your ride partner as it moves. Not unlike people, the ride was getting a bit worn out, but it has returned to the show circuit ready to thrill midway lovers. Almost like it needed a rest!
I felt like the guys and gals working the rides were ready to set the thrill bar high for the fair-goers. Twisting, turning, spinning and rolling! A great event for that first date or taking kids out for their introduction to the midway. Note: I have always thought it would be cool to work on a ride – for at least one night. “Do YOU Wanna Go FASTER”. Watch for the Himalaya, Freak Out, Rockstar, Tilt-A-Whirl and if you want the eye in the sky take a trip on the Gondola Wheel, the best way to see the whole midway at night!
The live music started with Blue Rodeo on Wednesday. Confederation Park was jammed. The Reklaws took over Thursday, then things started rocking with Glorious Sons, Sam Roberts on Friday and Saturday respectively. Sunday night rockin’ with Bif Naked and Kim Mitchell. Now that’s an All Canadian Line Up. Just outside of Confederation Park is Original 16 Midway Stage & Beer Garden that gives you some shade and dancing room. Terrance Littletent and the Kawacatoose Boyz entertain on the SaskMilk Family Stage, there’s Mutton Busting in the Ag Zone, Sask Drift shows off on the West side of the grounds along with Kings Park Speedway demonstration. When I think of cars and a fair, immediately I think, “where’s the demolition derby?”. Sure shootin’ there is one. Sunday don’t miss the Hit to Pass: Last Man Standing Demolition Derby! Time stamped for 6 to 7:30pm. Oh, by the way, the Fireworks are Sunday at 10pm following Kim Mitchell on the Original 16 Grandstand Stage.
There’s food, there is a market place and kids rides too. Shelter from the heat and green grass to sit on. Enjoy yourself and set sail into the month of August with Regina’s QCX
