A long-awaited federal provincial agriculture ministers meeting goes Thursday to discuss the future of the support program agristability.
Agriculture Minister David Marit is hoping Saskatchewan’s concerns about program cost can be among the issues resolved.
Ottawa says the reforms to AgriStability would result in an added $170-million in payments directly into farmers pockets.
However, for these changes to be put in place, Ottawa needs at least two of the three Prairie Provinces to join.
The federal proposal would remove the reference margin limit and increase the compensation rate from 70 to 80 percent.
Saskatchewan farm groups have supported the proposals.
