SASKATOON — A 42-year-old Saskatoon man is facing a number of charges following an incident where two Saskatoon Police Service Bike Unit officers were struck by a dirt bike.
Police say officers were patrolling the Meewasin Trail in the 100 block of Spadina Crescent East, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Aug. 16, when they encountered a male riding toward them on an electric dirt bike. The male began accelerating toward the officers when he saw them, hitting them both, before coming off of his electric bike, say police.
He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a taser, a baton and 5.3 grams of methamphetamine. Police say the officers were not injured during the incident, but the suspect suffered a minor injury.
The man is now facing two counts each of assaulting a police officer, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and carrying a concealed weapon. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants at the time.
