PRINCE ALBERT — On Sept. 3, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP were notified by Buckland Fire and Rescue of a large grass fire burning along Highway 2, about five kilometres north of Prince Albert.
Initial reports indicated the fire may have been intentionally set. RCMP responded immediately, and their investigation determined the fire was human-caused.
A 35-year-old man from Little Red River First Nation was arrested near the scene. He is charged with one count of arson — damage to property, and one count of failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order prohibiting possession of incendiary devices such as lighters or matches. Both charges are under Criminal Code.
He is also charged with allegedly breaching the conditions of a conditional sentence order from July 16, 2025, by possessing a lighter.
“Situations like this are gravely concerning, especially in light of the devastating fire season northern Saskatchewan has experienced,” said Sgt. Dan Lozinski of the Prince Albert RCMP. Thankfully, the grass fire was quickly controlled by on-scene firefighters.
Arrested man is remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear next in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Sept. 5 at 10 a.m.
