SASKATOON — A former Saskatoon music teacher has been charged in relation to a historical sexual assault involving at least one boy.
On Aug. 20, Saskatoon Police Service Sex Crime Unit investigators charged 87-year-old Raymond Eldon McHargue after receiving a report that he sexually assaulted a male youth between 1984 and 1988.
Police say McHargue moved to Saskatoon in 1977 and began teaching piano and organ lessons that year, both at a local music store and at his private home on Churchill Drive. He continued teaching music until 2020.
McHargue faces charges of committing an act of gross indecency, sexual interference with a person under 14, and sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Sept. 11.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Police note sexual assault allegations can be investigated regardless of how many years have passed.
Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police or the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300.
