SASKATOON — A man has been arrested and charged following an armed robbery at a downtown Saskatoon financial institution Thursday afternoon.
Police said officers were called just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 4 to the 200 block of 19th Street East, where a man allegedly entered a business, threatened staff with an axe and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators reviewed video evidence and began searching for the suspect.
Around 6:15 p.m., police responded to a report of an intoxicated man in the 900 block of Main Street East. Officers found a man lying on the ground with an open backpack and a hatchet beside him.
Police confirmed the hatchet was the same weapon used in the robbery and identified the man as the suspect from earlier in the day.
The 46-year-old is charged with two counts of robbery and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
