REGINA — A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Angus Fox, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Whakia Ewalk. The hearing will take place in February 2026 to determine if there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial.
Fox is also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded or restricted firearm.
A second individual, Herb Fox, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder in connection with Ewalk’s death. He is scheduled back in Regina court on Sept. 18.
In June, both accused were arrested by Edmonton Police Service and brought back to Saskatchewan to face charges.
Ewalk’s mother, Carleen Ewalk, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support her son’s pregnant wife and young children.
She described her son as a loving father, husband and selfless protector. She said he was loyal and the backbone of their family.
“He always stopped to help the homeless,” she said. “Even if it wasn’t very much he still helped with what he had. He put everybody before himself.”
Ewalk was fatally shot on May 30 on Marshall Crescent. Regina police officers responded at approximately 2 a.m. to reports of gunshots and found Wahkia deceased outside a home.
