Update: ESTEVAN — The two people charged in a drug bust in Estevan last week made their first appearances in Estevan Provincial Court on Sept. 8.
Jason Ryan Dyck and Krista Mae Grulich were remanded into custody and are slated to have show-cause hearings Sept. 15, also in Estevan, to determine if they will receive bail.
Prosecutor Kathryn Gilliss said the Crown was opposed to their release. Joelle Graham, who was representing both Dyck and Grulich, suggested electronic monitoring might help them receive bail, but they remained in custody for now.
Original report: According to a news release, the Estevan Police Service (EPS) Drug Intelligence Unit arrested the duo Sept. 4 in connection with a drug trafficking investigation.
Dyck, age 44, is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and resisting arrest. According to the EPS and court information, he attempted to flee a member of the EPS.
Grulich, 45, has been charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon. According to information provided in court, the weapon was a set of brass knuckles.
The EPS said a search warrant, authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, was executed at a residence in the 400-block of Third Street. Police seized:over $12,000 in cash, the prohibited weapon, and cocaine the EPS said has an estimated street value of $7,000.
The EPS also thanked the public for their assistance in apprehending the male suspect.
