REGINA — A local Regina non-profit group is marking World Suicide Prevention Day.
On Wednesday, Caring Hearts will hold a gathering event at Regina’s Central Park.
“This event is really critical, especially in Saskatchewan, because we have the highest rate of suicide loss of any province in Canada,” said Keely Wight-Young, executive director of Caring Hearts.
“[These losses] affect many of us, our friends, our neighbours, our colleagues, our family members,” said Wight-Young.
With this event, Wight-Young hopes it will help the community share memories of loved ones, but also stories of those who survived suicide attempts.
There will also be a special guest speaker, Todd Rennebohm, a suicide attempt survivor and mental health advocate.
The event gets underway at 6 p.m.
