The rivalry between Regina and Saskatoon will be getting bloody in June.
Both cities have partnered with Canadian Blood Services and challenged each other to fill blood appointments this month.
“We are partnering with Canadian Blood Services Regina to support local hospital patients by committing to filling all 1,900 in the month of June,” Regina Mayor Sandra Masters said.
Masters added that there is an immediate need for blood donors.
One in two people in Canada are eligible to donate blood, plasma, and platelets, but only one in 81 does. Last month, the national blood inventory declined by 25 percent since April.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark says they will be looking to fill more appointments than Regina.
“Proud that Saskatoon has partnered with the Canadian Blood Services in the month of June, we are rallying all of Saskatoon to fill 2,400 blood donations at the Canadian Blood Services, Saskatoon Donor Centre.”
Clark added that he is asking people in both Cities to book and keep your appointment in June.
