Original post: The Weyburn RCMP are investigating an incident of potential police impersonation that occurred Saturday night on a rural grid road southeast of the city.
According to RCMP, on Sept. 13, at approximately 10:40 p.m. they received a report from a motorist who was driving near Midale when a vehicle approached from behind displaying unauthorized red and blue emergency lights.
The police investigation determined that both vehicles slowed down. Immediately after, the vehicle with the illegal lights didn’t attempt to initiate a traffic stop but instead fled.
The suspect vehicle is described as a granite grey, heavy-duty pickup truck, believed to be a 2000s-model Chevrolet. It has a flat deck and a heavy-duty rack. A key identifying feature reported by the witness was that the red and blue flashing lights were mounted inside the front windshield, near the rearview mirror.
Weyburn RCMP ask anyone who believes they are being followed by an imitation police vehicle to contact RCMP immediately.
To report information about this incident or report any suspicious vehicle, call 310-RCMP. Always call 911 in an emergency.
Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
