A familiar Yorkton recreation facility is getting a new name.
The City of Yorkton announced a 10-year naming rights agreement with Great Canadian Oil Change for the curling rink at the Gallagher Centre. Beginning October 1, the facility will be known as The Great Canadian Oil Change Curling Rink.
Mayor Aaron Kienle said that the partnership highlights how businesses and the community can work together.
“The curling rink is one of Yorkton’s busiest venues, a place where people come together for recreation, connection, and community,” he said. “Partnering with Great Canadian Oil Change not only supports that, but also shows how local business and community spirit can work hand in hand to build a stronger Yorkton.”
The rink is a hub of activity during the winter months, with daytime draws, evening leagues and provincial tournaments filling the ice. Local bonspiels and high school competitions are regular events. In the summer, the floor space is used for trade shows, weddings, banquets and the annual Summer Fair.
Great Canadian Oil Change owner Mike Popowich said supporting the rink is an investment in the community.
“We hope that the curling rink continues to be a catalyst for community growth and continue to bring people together,” he said. “Our investment into the curling rink is an investment into the heart of the Yorkton community.”
The City also announced a new partnership with SoakZone Auto Spa that will see the Sports Lounge at the Gallagher Centre carry the company’s name for the next decade as starting October 1, the facility will be officially known as the SoakZone Sports Lounge.
The lounge can be rented for private and public events, providing a space for casual receptions, cocktail gatherings, or as an extension for meetings and conventions.
Co-owner of the SoakZone Auto Spa Evan Johnson added that the lounge can help drive economic growth and make a lasting impact on both visitors and local families.
