SASKATOON — A man who was on the province’s most wanted fugitive list has been remanded in custody after his appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Sept. 16.
Cory Lee Rushkewich was arrested on Sept. 8 by the Saskatchewan RCMP Enforcement Response Team (SERT), ending a months-long search that began after he failed to appear in court on May 4 to face violence-related charges.
In June, Saskatchewan RCMP listed him as No. 13 on their most wanted list.
The charges against Rushkewich stem from an incident in November in Rosetown. According to RCMP, officers responded to a robbery and serious assault in the First Street West area. Police say a man stole a cellphone from a woman and pointed a firearm at several individuals during the incident. A male victim was then assaulted and treated in hospital for serious injuries.
Following the incident, Rosetown RCMP arrested Cory Rushkewich and his brother, Randy Darcy Rushkewich, both from Rosetown. Both men were charged with aggravated assault. Cory Rushkewich faces additional charges including three counts of pointing a firearm and robbery.
Rushkewich is back in Saskatoon court on Sept. 19.
