WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service is mourning the loss of Beaumont, their long-serving Victim Services dog, who passed away. Beaumont faithfully served the community, Victim Services, and the Weyburn Police Service for over 10 years.
"Trauma K9s are trained to detect stress and will lay their heads on the laps of victims and vulnerable witnesses, this was Beaus specialty," said Weyburn Police Service. "Beaumont assisted with hundreds of cases, providing the comfort to victims and witnesses that enabled them to bravely complete statements, interviews and to testify in court.
Beaus work did not end at the interview room. When not in use for a statement, Beau would make his rounds throughout the station checking in on each staff member, utilizing his training in detecting stress, he also provided unwavering loyalty and service to his own members.
“Even after his official retirement, he remained a beloved presence in our office for several years until his passing,” said Weyburn Police Service. “Our deepest condolences go to his handler, and best friend, Tara (Busch), our Victim Services co-ordinator, as well as to everyone whose lives were touched by Beaumont’s service and companionship.”
