SASKATOON — A 27-year-old man is in custody following an incident in which a driver evaded police before hiding out in the basement of a home in the 100 block of Cartier Crescent on the weekend.
At approximately 10:40 p.m., Sept. 21, a canine officer on patrol attempted a traffic stop of a white Jeep Compass in the area of 22nd Street and Avenue I North. The driver refused to stop and began to evade officers, say police, and members of the Air Support Unit were able to spot the vehicle and direct ground units.
A tire deflation device was successful in disabling the tires. The vehicle then continued a short distance before parking outside a home on Cartier Crescent. Officers arriving on scene were able to see parts of a firearm inside the vehicle.
Due to an elevated concern, members of the Tactical Support Unit began assisting and took three occupants of the home into custody.
The 27-year-old is facing charges including: dangerous driving and evading police. He also had outstanding criminal code warrants.
Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit continue to investigate.
