REGINA – Police responded to a report of a firearms offence early Monday morning at a business in the 4100 block of 5th Avenue. Regina Police Service say the call came in approximately 1:20 a.m. prompting deployment of ground units and aerial support.
The RPS Aerial Support Unit (ASU) obtained a visual on the location. ASU officers observed two males fighting and relayed this information to ground units who were arriving on scene. As officers approached the two males, one of them fled from the area on foot. ASU tracked the male suspect through nearby alleys, following him to a backyard in the 1100 block of King Street where the suspect laid down. ASU directed officers on the ground to the location of the male, and he was placed under arrest.
During the arrest, the suspect became combative with officers, spitting on one of them.
Further investigation revealed the suspect had physically assaulted two victims and threatened to shoot them. Two other victims reported they were also threatened by the suspect in this manner.
Toby Thompson, 20, is charged with two counts of assault, assault of a peace officer, resisting arrest, and four counts of uttering threats.
He made his first appearance in court on Sept. 22.
