REGINA —The City of Regina joined residents in Victoria Park this morning to celebrate National Tree Day, marking the occasion with a tree seedling giveaway that underscored the community’s dedication to a greener future.
“National Tree Day continues to be a popular event with residents and it is great to see so many people come out to pick up seedlings,” said Veronica Schroder, Coordinator of Forestry, Pest & Horticulture for the City. “By planting these trees, residents are helping create greener and healthier neighbourhoods.”
More than 1,000 Siberian Larch seedlings were handed out to enthusiastic attendees, along with expert tips on planting and caring for their new trees. The initiative is part of Regina’s broader commitment to maintaining a thriving urban forest, which currently includes over 500,000 hand-planted public and private trees.

These trees play a vital role in improving the city’s environment — removing the carbon emissions equivalent to more than 3,300 mid-sized vehicles annually, aiding in flood control, and providing natural shade and cooling. All of these benefits support Regina’s long-term goal of becoming a 100% renewable city by 2050.
