In addition to the volunteerism medal, residents can also nominate a fellow Saskatchewanian for the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. The Saskatchewan Order of Merit was established in 1985 as the province’s highest honour. In 1991 the federal government added the Saskatchewan Order of Merit to the national sequence of orders, decorations, and medals. The Saskatchewan Order of Merit can be worn on national occasions and, pending the approval of the Governor General, can be worn alongside the national honours in the proper sequence.

You must include an explanation of why you’re nominating the individual, a biography of the person, a list of their achievements, and three to six letters of support. Cassettes, newspaper or album clippings, CD’s, and pictures are not to be included in the application. Current serving politicians, judges, and organizations are not eligible for the honour, only individuals are allowed to be nominated, including those who have recently passed away.
