Not sure I want to fly right now especially in the USA. Considering the government has shut down and Air Traffic Controllers and personnel are not getting paid, yet, they are considered essential and are forced to work! Seen numerous stories of airports closing the control tower down early but still receiving flights via remote radar assistance from other airports in the area??? not a good scenario. The kicker is coming across this story….Do you know why planes dim the lights for takeoff and landing? Most people think it’s to make you more comfortable, but that’s not the main reason. The site SimpleFlying.com just did an article. They say the real reason is so you’ll be able to see better if there’s a CRASH. Emergencies on planes are rare. But takeoff and landing are the most likely times for something to go wrong. And if anything does happen, there’s a good chance the plane will lose power. Dimming the lights ahead of time lets your eyes adjust, so you’ll be able to see better if everything suddenly goes dark. It also makes the “Exit” signs and emergency lighting more visible. So, the next time you fly and they dim the lights for departure, they’re not doing it to keep you comfortable. They’re doing it in case your plane FALLS OUT OF THE SKY.
