REGINA — As expected, Regina city council has voted in favour of applying to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency to be designated an area eligible under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).
The vote by council was unanimous. That vote clears the way for the city to apply to the province for the designation, which would allow residents whose principal residence was damaged to apply for funding for uninsurable losses.
According to the city, Service Regina received 124 service requests related to excess water in residents’ homes due to this storm.
Executive committee had voted in favour of the recommendation for making the application to PDAP, which passed easily with little debate at council Wednesday.
In speaking to reporters after the meeting Wednesday Mayor Chad Bachynski said it was “important that we get that through today, because we do have a limited time window, I think 30 days to put that in to make sure that we have that funding available for residents.”
Once the disaster assistance designation is approved, residents can expect to find out more information about how to make their claims by going to the city’s website at regina.ca.
