MEADOW LAKE — Two people charged in the homicide of 30-year-old Braydon Natomagan appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Oct. 6. The matters for Christopher Nolan and Kelsey Iron were waived to La Ronge court.
Both accused remain in custody are now scheduled to appear in court next on Oct. 20.
The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 3. At approximately 2 p.m., Pinehouse RCMP responded to a report of a shooting just outside the northern village of Pinehouse.
Officers located a seriously injured man at the scene, later identified as Natomagan, who was from Pinehouse.
The police investigation found that an altercation occurred within a group, during which shots were fired, injuring Natomagan.
Two suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers patrolling the area spotted the suspect vehicle near Beauval. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop, fleeing from officers before finally coming to a stop on an off-road trail. The two were then arrested without further incident.
Christopher Nolan, 25, faces charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm when prohibited.
Kelsey Iron is charged with accessory after the fact to murder, flight from police, dangerous driving, and refusing to comply with a breath demand.
Natomagan remembered
An obituary for Natomagan said he was a devoted father, loving son and cherished friend to many.
“He was a man who lived life with laughter and light, always ready to make others smile and enjoy the moment,” read his obituary. “Known for his fun-loving spirit and caring heart, Braydon made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
He left behind his companion Natalie Natomagan and two children.
His funeral service is Oct. 9.
