YORKTON — Lenore Pinder of Yorkton has been elected as Saskatchewan New Democrats party president.
The former Yorkton health-care worker of 20 years was elected at the recent NDP convention as Carla Beck and her team set in motion plans for the party.
Pinder told Yorkton This Week that after working with the party for the past 2.5 years, and running as the local candidate in the most recent provincial election she wanted to stay involved.
Looking provincially Pinder added she believes “we need a change in government, and I’m interested in doing the work to make that happen.”
Pinder’s campaign in Yorkton during the 2024 election saw a 32-point swing in support when compared with the 2020 election.
“It is such an honour to have Lenore Pinder serve as our President — she will be critical to the work we’re doing in Yorkton and right across this province,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck in a release.
“Lenore has devoted her life to Saskatchewan and she will play an integral role as we deliver on plans to create good-paying jobs, get healthcare out of last place, make communities safer and make life more affordable for families.”
Pinder has also served as Trustee for the Good Spirit School Division and as a director for the local Credit Union.
Pinder said the work starts now, adding that there was great momentum coming out of a convention with the greatest number of delegates in some two decades.
“Coming out of our Convention, Saskatchewan New Democrats are motivated and energized,” Pinder said in the party release.
The next step is working with the party executive to set a more formal plan for the months ahead, “what will get us there (to form government).” She added she was ready for whatever direction that takes, “I will do what needs to be done.”
Pinder said she believes change will come.
“Carla Beck will be the next Premier of Saskatchewan and she will be joined by an incredible team that is focused on building a bright future,” she noted in the release.
