REGINA — The Regina Police Service (RPS) has revealed a new safe space for online transactions.
Dubbed the “Safe Transaction Zone,” citizens can make transactions on the north side of RPS’ headquarters (1717 Saskatchewan Drive).
“[There] will be 24-7 cameras, and it’s well-lit, so if someone wants to do an exchange of property. We encourage them to do it in this area,” said RPS Acting Chief Lorilee Davies on Tuesday.
Davies said the RPS looked at other municipalities that have already incorporated a safe transaction zone as a guide.
“We’re happy to learn from what others have done. We just think it’s a great way to provide a little bit more of a crime prevention opportunity for people.”
Davies noted the police have seen 75 reports of fraud and other crimes, like robbery, in 2025 related to online transactions.
“There really is no limit to what we see in terms of, unfortunately, people taking advantage of others,” said Davies.
She also encouraged people to be more vigilant and look for “red flags” when meeting someone in person for an exchange.
“Just take a second to really think, ‘Hmm, is this too good to be true? Am [I] putting myself in a position of vulnerability?’
“Take somebody with you too if you’re feeling uncomfortable. Lots of those little things, I think, hopefully, can help reduce [the risks].”
The RPS will have no officers designated for the area, as Davies believes transactions and purchases are a civil matter unless a crime is committed.
“If someone has a concern for their safety or believes they have been defrauded, they are encouraged to report it in person to officers at the RPS inquiry desk during regular business hours,” states the police service.
