SASKATOON — Second update, Oct. 23, 4:43 p.m.: One man has been charged following a collision on University Bridge that occurred on Oct. 16.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, officers attended to a hospital in the 100 block of Hospital Drive and charged a man in relation to a collision that occurred earlier this month.
As a result, the 37-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, impaired driving, refusal to provide a blood sample, possession of a controlled substance, and breach of probation. He remains in hospital under the Mental Health Services Act.
Update, Oct. 16, 2:56 p.m.: The 37-year-old man previously arrested for dangerous driving, evading police, impaired driving, and refusal was released from police custody without charges for admission to hospital under the Mental Health Services Act.
This incident remains under investigation.
Original post, Oct. 15, 5 p.m.: Saskatoon Police have laid charges against a 37-year-old man following several reports of erratic driving that culminated in a collision on University Bridge this morning.
At approximately 8:45 a.m., Oct. 15, SPS Communications began receiving numerous calls about a black vehicle driving erratically, in the wrong lanes of travel, and disobeying traffic signals. A patrol officer attempted a traffic stop in the 900 block of 7th Avenue North but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Shortly before 9:30 a.m., the vehicle collided with a truck on University Bridge that resulted in traffic restrictions in both directions. No serious injuries were reported.
The 37-year-old driver is charged with dangerous driving, evade police, impaired driving, and refusal.
Traffic restrictions on University Bridge have since been lifted.
