As expected, this World Series match between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers is not for the faint of heart as both teams continue to battle for the honour of best in the majors. Both teams have proved they’re evenly patched, giving fans and sports analysts lots to talk about after each game.
Monday’s game three will go down in history as one of the longest games in World Series history after 18 innings of play. In fact, the game tied the previous record set in 2018 between the Dodgers and Red Sox in game three, lasting 6 hours, 39 minutes. Over 52 thousand fans stuck around to see Canadian Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off solo home run to win the game for the Dodgers 6-5.
The game brought on some huge stats including 609 pitches, 130 at-bats, 19 pitchers, five home runs, and a huge performance from Shohei Ohtani, who managed to score two homers, two doubles, and five walks. In total, he reached base nine times in game three, setting a post-season record.
Game three saw Brad Paisley sing the US national anthem and he’s no stranger to long baseball games. According to stats from TSN, when Paisley sang the anthem in the game 2 of the 2017 World Series, it went 11 innings. He also sang the anthem in game 3 of the 2018 World Series which went to a record setting 18 innings and when he performed at game 1 in the 2022 World Series, the game went 10 innings. Brad Paisley has officially performed at the two longest World Series games in history.
Despite a long game, there’s no rest for the wicked, as the old saying goes, because game four is set for 6:00 tonight in Los Angeles.
