NORTH BATTLEFORD — Battlefords RCMP – with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services – arrested an armed man who reportedly attempted to rob someone and smashed a window.
On Oct. 24 at approximately 10:45 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received multiple calls about a man threatening people with a machete on 108 Street in North Battleford.
Officers immediately responded and observed two men. One was arrested, but was later released without being charged. The second man ran away from police.
Investigation determined the man attempted to steal a cell phone from someone, and also smashed a vehicle’s windows. No physical injuries were reported.
A police dog tracked the man to a nearby house, where officers arrested him. A firearm magazine was located during his arrest. The machete was also recovered.
As a result of continued investigation, an 18-year-old man, from North Battleford, is charged with:
– one count, mischief under $5,000;
– one count, robbery;
– one count, unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon;
– one count, resist peace officer; and
– one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
