REGINA — The City of Regina is moving forward to redevelop the old General Motors (GM) Plant.
On Tuesday, the city announced it is now accepting proposals from qualified firms or individuals planning to purchase and redevelop the site located at 1250 Winnipeg Street.
“The city is excited to make this opportunity available to private developers. We are eager to see this site return to active use in the community,” said Chad Jedlic, director, land, real estate & economic development.
GM opened the Regina plant in 1928, but closed several times due to economic conditions.
In 1941, the Canadian government took over the plant for war production.
Decades later, the City of Regina purchased the property and housed departments inside. Eventually, the site was decommissioned in 2021 over health concerns.
